Random Acts of Kindness during this Surreal but Real Time!

Does your world feel like it has been turned upside down? Are you finding it difficult or having difficult moments?  Know that you are not alone!

The coronavirus outbreak has thrown many of us out of whack. It is not something we ever thought we would experience. It is something we would watch on TV or hear about elsewhere but not something in our own backyard, never mind globally.

I have had my ups and downs as I move through this health crisis and I am trying to ensure that I manage the best I can be by taking care of my health through nutrition, exercise, and stress management.

And by using a video conferencing application such as zoom to help me stay connected with family and friends.

Does your world feel like it has been turned upside down? Are you finding it difficult or having difficult moments?  Know that you are not alone!

I think it is extremely important that we take care of our mental wellbeing; and something that can help us with that is by doing some random acts of kindness.

Even though we are isolated, there is community, hope and support.

You see it with people helping others by doing groceries for neighbours who are stuck inside, singing from balconies, clapping the essential workers, volunteers helping out, retired nurses coming out of retirement, etc.

The benefit of helping and supporting others is that it is great for our own mental health; it reduces stress; it makes us and them feel good!

So, What can we do when we are stuck at home?

Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while (I have reached out to people on Facebook that I haven’t seen in a long time to see how they are doing. It feels good ❤️

Send a motivational text to a friend who is struggling.

Tell a family member how much you love and appreciate them.

Tell a friend that you appreciate their support

Arrange to have a cup of coffee or tea and virtual catch up with someone you know.  We had a virtual vino last Friday and will be having a group one this Friday with people from my school who I have not seen in a very long time. Loving it!

Arrange to watch a movie at the same time as a friend and video call.

Tell someone you know that you are proud of them.

Tell someone you know why you are thankful for them.

Send someone you know a joke to cheer them up.

Send someone you know a picture of a cute animal.

Send an inspirational quote to a friend.  It will help boost their spirit and yours!

Send an interesting article to a friend.

Contact someone you haven’t seen in a while and arrange a phone catch up.

Reach out to call a friend, family member or neighbour who is experiencing loneliness or self-isolation.

Lend your ear – call a colleague and ask how they’re finding the change in routine.

Arrange to have a video lunch with a colleague, friend or family member.

I know from personal experience that doing some kind of act of kindness means so much to the person on the receiving end and it lifts my spirits.

Have you been doing random acts of kindness?  If so, please feel free to comment below. I, and I am sure others, would love to hear the good stuff!
